well it was more for a test than anything try make the images smaller

I haven't looked at this enough to test it again but there should be a wrapper setting in css itself. If there is and it's the same name as the site theme "wrapper" then just rename it to something like slide_wrapper. This should give more flexibility on the slider size itself.

That's now it is on the version I have,  not sure about the one he's using.

The only place that I am seeing any wrapper setting is in the Demo style.css file. Try adding that setting to the Nivo's default.css file and see what it does.

Some people are having issues viewing the slideshow.. what browser plugin in required or needs updating?

It don't work in IE6, for sure I'm not sure about 8 but 9 you have to change it to compatibility mode. Upgrade to Firefox is the best way to fix it
