SmartPhone theme?

Have you guys ever thought about doing a free and Premium smart phone SMF theme?

So many people use smart phone now, i think it would be quite popular, considering the standard of themes you guys have

Hi Biggs,

Currently we're not planning to make smart phone (mobile) themes. But if I remember correctly, there are already a few available for SMF.
SMF-Media is one of them.

The whole idea behind having a mobile theme is to reduce load, hence most of them just being text based.. So for DZ to create a them would be pointless mate...

I don't see it as pointless

Most Mobile and Wap Theme are ugly. Like you said they are only text based.

But like the theme Mayday linked, is a nice looking theme for smartphone not only just texted based. It shows, it doesn't have to be so.

but due to DZ high standard of themes, i would like to see what sort of creative idea they would come up with for a nice looking smartphone theme

To be honest, im not a big fan of those mobile themes. There's something about them i just don't like. When browsing the web on my phone and run into one of those mobile themes - i switch to the real deal as soon as possible.

Yeah, I hate the mobile themes, they look really bad.

"Those mobile themes" can refer to the WAP type theme built into SMF, or to something like Dragooon's mobile theme, which is just regular HTML and CSS but built to look more like a natural phone interface...

By "those mobile themes" i referred to all those type of themes in general. That includes WAP, smartphone, etc...

I can understand WAP and so on, but I don't get why you'd choose the full fat version over a theme pretty much designed for the current generation of phones? The idea there is to make things sized reasonably well for phones, plus it helps keep the speed up and data costs down...

I'm just curious, really, since I've not met many phone owners who would readily go for a full fat version when there's a (good) mobile experience handy.

Why would i wanna load a separate (and limited) version of a site if i can browse the real deal pretty easy. The current generation of phones handles those full fat versions pretty well imo. Besides, I don't browse the web using my phone hourly or daily, only if really necessary. And 99% of that time i'll do it via WiFi. I rather optimize my real site for phones, then using a separate mobile version of it.

Guess, i'm just a picky guy lol. I like it or i don't.

Therein lies the problem as I understand it - my understanding was that the typical phone screen wasn't exactly suited to the size of content a full theme throws at it. I mean, the default Dziner theme is 990px wide, which IIRC is wider than most phone screens are high (I know the iPhone 4 has a 960px length screen)

Though most of the time, the upload functionality is disabled anyway from the browser so you'd have to get into using an app to upload then...

Yes true but still, they will be displayed "pretty" good imo. DS, for example is set at 960px which i find perfectly fine for an iPhone/iPad. Comes down to personal preferences i guess.

Sure, i can understand some people may prefer a good mobile theme. No problem with that. Only, the chance i will be using a mobile theme myself is really small and therefor not really interested in building themes as such.

I hope Dzinerstudio team could come up with a mobile theme like Dragooon's mobile theme (much better I expect from DZinerStudio team)

Honestly, I doubt it, as they have said themselves, simply because a small screen, lower-than-desktop bandwidth and paid data plans make this a bad idea.

All of the mobile themes out there, like Dragooon's, are minimalist for a *reason*. It's because of small screen sizes, limited bandwidth and to minimise the amount of data sent to keep costs down.
