Yes and we have discussed this before, that if your willing to give it a try, you can make image edits to PNG files using PS, after you do yur edit you may save the file as a PSD and then PNG. G1 and I and others, I think Chair have done complete theme mod changes using PS on all Images! please search around this site there is tons of information and how tuts here.
